Probably dating to the early medieval period (7th–10th century), this cross-slab is associated with the monastic site of Clonmacnoise and may have served as a grave marker or commemorative monument. Its Christian symbolism reflects the spread of Christianity in Ireland and the region's importance as a religious and scholarly centre.
