Cross-slab in Clonmacnoise

Clonmacnoise grave-slab inventory (1992) number: CLN00665 Dimensions: H 0.32, W 0.465, T 0.02 A lozenge, inside a single line frame, is covered in lines forming a lattice pattern. There seems to be a series of irregularly placed squares around the frame. The slab was squared up before the design was carved. Inscription: Across the base is a very worn inscription '…WIL THUI[TH]N'. Evidence of discovery: OPW 1954-58. Condition: Very worn, only half the design remains. Date likely to the early medieval period (7th–10th century AD), consistent with other carved stones in Clonmacnoise. The lozenge and lattice design may have symbolic or decorative significance, possibly related to Christian iconography or earlier pagan traditions.
