Cross-slab in Clonmacnoise

Clonmacnoise grave-slab inventory (1992) number: CLN00573 Dimensions: H 0.16, W 0.11, T 0.055 Stepped terminal in a two line rectilinear frame. Part of an inscription survives below the frame. Inscription: 'EILE…' Evidence of discovery: Davis 1984. Condition: Only a worn fragment of a cross arm end remains.. The Clonmacnoise inventory was compiled by the Office of Public Works. Date likely to the early medieval period, possibly 8th to 10th century AD, based on the style of the cross-slab and the surviving inscription. The partial name "EILE…" may be part of a dedication or commemorative text, common in early Christian grave markers.
