Cross-slab in Clonmacnoise

Clonmacnoise grave-slab inventory (1992) number: CLN00434 Dimensions: H 0.23, W 0.12, T 0.035 Outline expansional cross with median line (?) and blank semicircular terminal inside a three line frame, the inner line of which is formed by the outer cross line. No inscription. Evidence of discovery: Davis 1984. Condition: Fragment with part of frame and terminal.. The Clonmacnoise inventory was compiled by the Office of Public Works. Probably dates to the early medieval period (7th–10th century AD), associated with Christian monastic activity at Clonmacnoise. The cross design may have had a liturgical or commemorative function, typical of high crosses in Ireland.
