Cross-slab in Clonmacnoise

Clonmacnoise grave-slab inventory (1992) number: CLN00419 Dimensions: H 0.362, W 0.285, T 0.027 Fragment of an expansional cross with semicircular looped terminal with interlace knot ornament. Probably an outline cross with median line. Inscription: Part of an inscription 'M]AEL' Evidence of discovery: Macalister 1949. Condition: Fragment with part of termianl and inscription. 9th- to 10th-century origin, likely Christian in association with the monastic settlement of Clonmacnoise. The interlace knotwork suggests symbolic or decorative religious significance, common in early Irish high crosses.
