Cross-slab in Clonmacnoise

Clonmacnoise grave-slab inventory (1992) number: CLN00410 Dimensions: H 0.67, W 0.62, T 0.10 Triple outline cross with median line and looped semicircular terminal with possible fret pattern. The outline rectilinear frame joins the terminal and has a looped angle. It is the obverse of CLN00293. Inscription: 'A]CHT' inscribed above the terminal. Evidence of discovery: Macalister 1949. Date likely to the 9th to 11th century AD, consistent with High Cross tradition in Ireland. The cross design may have had both Christian symbolic meaning and a funerary or commemorative function.
