Cross-slab in Clonmacnoise

Clonmacnoise grave-slab inventory (1992) number: CLN00404 Dimensions: H 0.415, W 0.42 Part of two terminals survives showing a triple outline cross with median line. The left and upper arm terminals are looped and have differing fret patterns on them. Inscription: Start of an inscription 'O'. Evidence of discovery: Davis 1984. Condition: Most of front of slab flaked away.. The Clonmacnoise inventory was compiled by the Office of Public Works. Date likely to the 9th–10th century AD, associated with early Christian use in the Clonmacnoise monastic site. The triple outline cross with looped terminals may reflect Insular Christian symbolism, possibly linked to ritual or funerary practice.
