Cross-slab in Clonmacnoise

Clonmacnoise grave-slab inventory (1992) number: CLN00396 Dimensions: H 0.225, W 0.265, T 0.02 Semicircular looped terminal, probably from an outline cross with median line (possibly fret pattern?). No inscription. Evidence of discovery: Macalister 1898-1905. Condition: Fragment with part of a terminal. National Monuments Service, Photo number: 81-948. Date likely to the early medieval period, possibly 8th to 10th century AD, based on the style of the cross and the context of Clonmacnoise as an important monastic site. The semicircular looped terminal may represent a stylized form of a Christian cross, reflecting early Irish monastic art and religious practice.
