Cross-slab in Clonmacnoise

Clonmacnoise grave-slab inventory (1992) number: CLN00352 Dimensions: H 9ins, W 8ins Fragment of an double outline expansional cross with a median line. The central expansion (?) contains fret pattern and there is interlace in the surviving terminal (?). Inscription: The letters 'TH'. Evidence of discovery: Macalister 1949. Condition: Now lost. Lionard, Early Irish Grave-slabs, PRIA 60(1959-60), p 134, Fig 25, no. 13. The Clonmacnoise inventory was compiled by the Office of Public Works. Date likely to the 9th–10th century AD, associated with early Christian Ireland. The cross and interlacing may signify a funerary or commemorative monument, common in monastic sites like Clonmacnoise.
