What is recorded here

Thirty-six centimetres of worn stone holds a triple-arm spiral and two stubborn letters, U and M, while the rest of the name has rubbed into powder. The cross arms loop like frozen knots, the right side broken, the stem gone, as if the slab was chopped into a smaller shape and forced into another wall or floor. Clonmacnoise gave it up, reused it, and forgot the person it marked. What remains is a cross, a spiral, and two letters pointing at a life the stone no longer remembers.

Clonmacnoise grave-slab inventory (1992) number: CLN00329 Dimensions: H 0.36, W 0.302, T 0.044 Outline expansional cross with median line, looped semicircular terminals with fret patterns, (upper terminal very worn but apparently similar) and a central expansion with triple arm spiral. The stone appears to have been squared off for reuse. Inscription: Two letters from a vertical inscription survive 'U M'. Evidence of discovery: Condition: Very worn. Date likely to the early medieval period (8th–10th century AD), consistent with other Christian cross-slabs from Clonmacnoise. The design suggests a liturgical or commemorative function, possibly marking a grave or religious site.
