Cross-slab in Clonmacnoise

Clonmacnoise grave-slab inventory (1992) number: CLN00318 Dimensions: Unknown Three line expansional cross with circular central expansion containing triskelion and blank terminal expansion. Inscription: 'OR DO MA[EL MH]ICHIL'. Evidence of discovery: Drawn by Margaret Strokes from a rubbing. Petrie 1872. Condition: Lost after 1872. Stokes, M. Date likely to the 9th to 11th century AD, consistent with the Insular Christian tradition of the Clonmacnoise monastic site. The cross-slab probably served a funerary or commemorative function, with the triskelion symbol possibly representing the Holy Trinity or eternal life.
