Cross-slab in Clonmacnoise

Clonmacnoise grave-slab inventory (1992) number: CLN00290 Dimensions: H 0.38, W 0.32, T 0.095 Plain outline expansional cross with median line. The centre expansion is circular and the terminal expansions semicircular. No inscription. Evidence of discovery: Davis 1984 Condition: Very worn and damaged. Centre and arms survive.. Date likely to the 9th to 11th century AD, consistent with early Christian insular art in Ireland. The cross design may have had a liturgical or commemorative function, reflecting monastic influence in the Clonmacnoise area.
