Cross-slab in Clonmacnoise

Clonmacnoise grave-slab inventory (1992) number: CLN00260 Dimensions: H 0.432, W 0.385, T 0.047 A linear cross inside a single line circular frame with a circle at the centre and slightly expanded triangular arm ends. No inscription. Evidence of discovery: OPW 1954-58 Condition: Complete but very worn. National Monuments Service, Photo number: 81-361. Date likely to the early medieval period, possibly 8th to 10th century AD, reflecting Christian symbolism associated with Clonmacnoise's monastic site. The cross design may have had both liturgical and commemorative functions, common in early Irish Christian grave-slabs.
