Cross-slab in Clonmacnoise

Clonmacnoise grave-slab inventory (1992) number: CLN00211 Dimensions: H 0.40, W 0.365, T 0.044 Double outline hollow angled ring cross inside a two line rectilinear frame. The outer line of the cross forms the inner line of the frame. Inscription: A damaged and worn inscriptioin 'SNEDGUS'. Evidence of discovery: Petrie 1822 Condition: Very worn. 9th- to 10th-century AD; the cross design reflects early Christian artistic traditions and may have been used as a grave marker or commemorative monument. Clonmacnoise was an important monastic site, and such slabs are often associated with ecclesiastical and burial contexts.
