Cross-slab in Clonmacnoise

Clonmacnoise grave-slab inventory (1992) number: CLN00124 Dimensions: H 0.46, W 0.445, T 0.065 A double outline cross of arcs inside a single line circular frame. The cross arms are blunted rather than the normal petal shaped and there are two lines in the quadrants making a criss-cross pattern. The same as CLN00123 but with added lines. No inscription. Evidence of discovery: OPW 1954-58 Condition: Very worn and uneven and damaged around the edges. National Monuments Service, Photo number: 81-389, 700. Probably early Christian period (7th–10th century). The stylized cross may have had a funerary or commemorative function, reflecting Christian symbolism in a monastic or burial context.
