Cross-slab in Clonmacnoise

Clonmacnoise grave-slab inventory (1992) number: CLN00116 Dimensions: H 0.28, W 0.30, T 0.03 Four leaf marigold pattern inside a two line circular frame. The petals are connected by semi-circular lines and are carved in relief. The slab, which is circular in shape, seems to have been worked. No inscription. Evidence of discovery: OPW 1954-58 Condition: Complete but very worn. National Monuments Service, Photo number: 81-360, 716. The Clonmacnoise inventory was compiled by the Office of Public Works. Date likely to the early Christian period (6th–10th century). The four-leaf marigold motif may symbolize protection, fertility, or spiritual significance, commonly found in Irish high cross and stone carving traditions.
