Cross-slab in Clonmacnoise

Clonmacnoise grave-slab inventory (1992) number: CLN00113 Dimensions: H 0.225, W 0.215, T 0.025 The two arms of the cross and the frame that remain show a double outline cross of arcs with circular centre (see CLN00111 and CLN00112) and triangular shaped terminals inside a two line circular frame. Date likely to the early medieval period, possibly 8th to 10th century. The double outline cross with a circular centre is typical of Insular Christian art and may have had a liturgical or commemorative function.
