Cross-slab in Clonmacnoise

Clonmacnoise grave-slab inventory (1992) number: CLN00104 Dimensions: H 0.68, W 0.71, T 0.04 Outline cross with hollow angles and stepped terminals inside a single line rectilinear frame. There is a cross in the centre of the cross containing a roundel but it is very worn and the design is difficult to decipher. Evidence of discovery: Macalister 1898-1905 Condition: Damaged fragment. Date likely to the early medieval period (7th–10th century AD), associated with Christian monastic activity at Clonmacnoise. The cross design may reflect liturgical or commemorative use, common in monastic cemeteries of the period.
