Cross-slab in Clonmacnoise

Clonmacnoise grave-slab inventory (1992) number: CLN00101 Dimensions: H 0.175, W 0.14, T 0.06 Outline cross inside a single line circular frame. The cross arms are triangular in shape. There was another 'main' cross on the slab but this is now lost. No inscription. Evidence of discovery: Davis 1984 Condition: Only a fragment survives.. The Clonmacnoise inventory was compiled by the Office of Public Works. A copy of the record for this slab is available for inspection in the relevant Archaeological Survey of Ireland (SMR) file. Date likely to the early medieval period (7th–10th century AD), consistent with other Christian monuments at Clonmacnoise. The cross may have had a liturgical or commemorative function, reflecting the site's importance as an early monastic foundation.
