Cross-slab in Clonmacnoise

Clonmacnoise grave-slab inventory (1992) number: CLN00100 Dimensions: Unknown. An outline cross with hollow angles inside a two line rectilinear frame. There are diagonal lines running from each arm across the cantons which form an inner frame for the cross. Inscription: 'IRAL…' Evidence of discovery: Drawn by Petrie at Clonmacnoise in 1822, since lost. Condition: Now lost. Stokes, M. Date likely to the early medieval period, possibly 8th to 10th century AD, consistent with Christian monastic activity in Clonmacnoise. The cross design may reflect both Christian symbolism and local artistic traditions, potentially used as a grave marker or commemorative monument.
