Cross-slab in Clonmacnoise

Clonmacnoise grave-slab inventory (1992) number: CLN00078 Dimensions: H 0.49, W 0.435, T 0.045 The surviving left and right cross arms and part of frame show an outline cross with square terminals, with steps, inside a two line frame. Beneath the frame is part of an inscription preceded by an initial cross. Inscription: 'O[RDO]' Evidence of discovery: Davis 1984. Date likely to the early medieval period, possibly 8th to 10th century AD, based on the style of the outline cross with square terminals. Such cross-slabs were often associated with Christian burial sites and may have had a commemorative or liturgical function.
