RATH in Cloghanduff, County Antrim, is an archaeological site recorded for the early Christian period. A rath is a fortified enclosure, often circular or oval, built with earth and stone to protect people, property and identity. It may have served as a farmstead, a leader’s residence or a seasonal stronghold. The ground still carries the shape of that choice, even when the buildings have vanished.
