Gallan is a 2.5m standing stone in a garden beside the Cork-Macroom road, its base revealed when road works cut away earth in March 1992. It stands slightly rectangular, tilted along a northeast-southwest line, quiet enough to be forgotten but visible enough to mark the edge of a lived place. Perhaps it guided people, marked a boundary or simply survived being buried; the road widened, and the stone refused to disappear.
