Cholmondeley Castle is a Grade II registered park and garden in Cheshire East where the Cholmondeley family have lived since the 12th century. George Cholmondeley, 1st Marquess of Cholmondeley, built the present crenellated house in 1801 after demolishing the old timber hall, and Robert Smirke later extended it into its final form. The grounds still hold a 13th-century chapel, a 1722 iron gateway, and gardens shaped across centuries by several hands.
