Under the southwest bank of the Cashel Upper ringfort, a rectangular hollow drops 1.3 metres into darkness, its moss-covered stones scattered as if the passage were stripped rather than forgotten. Local tradition claims the cave once ran north to a second ringfort 130 metres away, linking the two defences beneath the ground. Even emptied, the hole keeps its shape: a chamber waiting for the tunnel that made it meaningful.

In the SSW sector of a ringfort (MA070-105----). A large rectangular hollow (int. L 3.5m NW-SE; Wth 1.7m; max. D 1.3m) may be the remains of a robbed-out Man-made underground passage. The interior contains loose moss-covered stones and similar stones lie scattered on the ground surface about the hollow. Local tradition recalls that this was a ‘cave’ which led to a second ringfort (MA070-055----) c. 130m to the N. Date of visit: 7-3-2025 Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy and Leo Morahan
