Man-made underground passage in Carrowrevagh

Man-made underground passage

What is recorded here

Carrowrevagh is a hidden underground passage inside a rath in County Galway. It vanished from sight after McCaffrey noted it in 1952, leaving no surface trace for later visitors to find. The earth may have swallowed the entrance, or people may have covered it deliberately, but the passage still belongs to the field memory of the place.
Within the interior of a rath (GA097-074001-). No visible surface trace survives of the Man-made underground passage noted by McCaffrey (1952, 167, no. 16). Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 15 September 2017
