What is recorded here

Indicated was a fairy fort on a Mayo ridge, watching a river two hundred and seventy metres southeast while a farmyard crowded against its west side. People walked past the faint sixteen-metre circle, unsure whether they were avoiding a house, a god or their own fear. It is gone now, flattened into pasture and memory, but the land still holds the shape of what it refused to explain.

In pasture, located on top of a ridge with commanding views of the surrounding countryside, especially towards a river located 270m to SE. There is a farmyard immediately to W. This possible rath is shown on the 1837-8 and 1922 OS 6-inch maps as a roughly circular ringfort-sized enclosure (diam. c. 25m), incorporated into or truncated by field boundaries at S−NNE. It has been levelled; the ephemeral outline of a slightly raised area (diam. c. 16m) is still evident. According to local information, it was known as a ‘fort’.
