What is recorded here

Marked as a D-shaped feature planted with trees (dims c. 35m NE-SW; c. 20m NW-SE) truncated by a NE-SW field boundary at NW on the 1837 ed. of the OS 6-inch map, and as a circular feature (diam. c. 30m) N of a NE-SW field boundary on the 1915 ed. Situated at the crest of a slight SE-facing slope. It is not visible at ground level in an area partly occupied by a football pitch, but archaeological testing (02E0753) in the vicinity failed to produce any related material (Read 2004m). A geophysical survey (14R0120) on the area of the pitch to the NE produced no definitive indications of activity apart from a possible path (Leigh 2014), and archaeological testing (14E0442) confirmed this as a mix of stones and gravel but produced no other evidence of archaeological features (Byrne 2014). Rath (RO048-043----) is c. 140m to the W and earthwork (RO048-042----) is c. 80m to the N. See: excavations.ie 2014:252.
