What is recorded here

In wet pasture, located on the W side of stream, which flows N along the W side of a in a flat-bottomed valley. One of several fulachtaí fia and burnt mounds which occur over a distance of 1.5km along the base of the valley. Remains comprise a semi-circular area (c. 16m NE-SW; c. 10m NW-SE) of firm ground surrounded by soft, wet ground. It is truncated on the straight side, at E, by a NW-SE drain. A layer (D 0.8m) of burnt stone and charcoal is visible in section in the drain. A rivulet flowing from the slope at W cuts the S edge of the mound. There is a burnt mound (SL019-238----) c. 25m to SSE, and a possible burnt mound (SL019-239----) is c. 20m to SSW. Compiled by: Jane O'Shaughnessy Date of upload: 12 May 2011
