What is recorded here
Situated at the summit of Carn Hill: It is depicted as an antiquity and described as the site of a ‘Carn’ only on the 1907 edition of the OS 6-inch map. This was described in 1968 as a D-shaped and slightly raised, stony and grass-covered area (dims 21.5m N-S; 14.5m E-W) defined by a scarp (Wth 0.5m; H 0.45m). It was cut by a NNW-SSE field wall at W, and there was no evidence of it on the W side of the wall. Even the portion E of the wall had been removed by 1983.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
