What is recorded here

In rough pasture on the highest point (OD 529’) of a NE-SW karst ridge which slopes gently down to SW, offering wide views and within a field system (CL017-180----). Indicated and labelled ‘Carn’ on both the first (1842) and Cassini editions (1920) of the OS 6-inch map. This circular cairn (14.3m NE-SW; 13.4m NW-SE; H 1.1-2.2m) has a flat upper surface (diam. c. 2m) offset slightly to E of centre. There is a lot of displaced stone down the W face. Collapsed and grass-covered field walls extend onto the edge of the cairn from the NW, E and S. Westropp (1905, 215) noted several long, flat slabs in the cairn and suggested they may be the remains of a cist, but this feature was not visible when inspected in 1998. There is a megalithic structure (CL017-015001-) c. 42m to the NE, a wedge tomb (CL017-015004-) c. 79m to the NW, and another wedge tomb (CL017-015005-) c. 96m to the NNE.
