Killaderreen Grave Yard in County Clare, Ireland is a children's burial ground where the smallest lives were laid to rest. The exact number of children and the years they died have not survived into the public record, but the function of the place is clear: it was made for the young. That clarity is both tender and terrible, for a field set apart for children suggests a time when childhood death was common enough to require its own ground.
