Indicated

Crannog

What is recorded here

Indicated is a crannog in Derreskit Lough, County Cavan, Ireland. It sits about seventy metres from the shoreline as a low circular mound nearly fourteen metres across, now so thick with trees and bushes that its made shape barely shows. Whatever hands built it or lived there, the water and green growth have taken back most of the answer.
Small island in Derreskit Lough, c. 70m from the shoreline. From the shore it appears as a low, roughly circular mound (int. diam. c. 14m) densely overgrown with trees and bushes. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 December 2008
