What is recorded here
In low-lying grassland overlooking Levally Lough to S. Subcircular rath (N-S 59m, E-W 56.5m), in fair condition, defined by two banks and an intervening fosse. The inner bank is present from NE to SE and from SW to NW; elsewhere a scarp forms the enclosing element. The fosse and outer bank are visible only from SE to SSW. A field bank overlies the inner bank from NNE to E. There is a local tradition of a 'cave' (possible Man-made underground passage) within the interior, no visible surface trace of which survives. A circular earthen mound (D 5m) also within the interior appears to be modern.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999).
