This stone commemorative plaque records: This wall and the ground on which it stands belong wholly to the Cambridge Refuge, July 1841. This stone was replaced March 10 1881.
The Cambridge Refuge was an institution established in 1841 to provide shelter and support for fallen women, reflecting Victorian societal attitudes towards moral reform and social welfare.
