In Caherlehillan, a small rough cross marked the head of an early medieval grave, perhaps belonging to the site's founder. Buried beneath soil and time, it waited for human hands to reveal the shape of devotion hidden in ordinary stone.

A portion (0.4m x 0.18m; T 0.035m) of a small roughly shaped cross formed one of the covering slabs at the head of an early medieval grave in the graveyard (CO070-043008-). It was recovered during archaeological excavations in the ecclesiastical enclosure (see Sheehan 1994, 41-2; 1995, 43-4; 1996, 40-41; 1997, 47; 1998, 82; 2000a, 89; 2000b, 112; 2004, 211-12; 2006, 214). The excavator concluded that the grave may be that of the site's founder (Sheehan 2009).
