Burnt mound in Ballynapark

Burnt mound

Why this matters

Burnt mound, Late Bronze Age. The site provides evidence of ritual or industrial activity, with burnt material and structural remains indicating possible heat-related functions such as cooking, hide processing, or ceremonial practices.

What is recorded here

This is the record for the burnt mound excavated by Goorik Dehaene (E3223) on the N11 road improvement scheme. The burnt material sealed a trough and three pits. Poorly preserved remnants of timber lining was evident in the trough and of a clay lining around the top. A radiocarbon date places this feature in the early/middle Bronze Age.
