Burial

Why this matters

A Neolithic inhumation burial; significant as an example of early human burial practices in a sand ridge environment.

What is recorded here

Unlocated burial within townland, described by Helen Roe in her gazeteer of Finds, Monuments of County Laois as an 'Inhumation in sand ridge. Some bones and the skull were found when removing sand together with two small pots from the description food vessels. The bones crumbled when disturbed and then pots got "broken up". The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.

The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
