Burial ground in Hill OF Rath

Burial ground

What is recorded here

Quarrying bit into the hill and torn up burials, proving the ground had been busy long before tools broke it open. That is why the slope still feels occupied even when empty.
Local tradition of burials having been uncovered at the edge of a quarry on the slope of the hill. The above description is derived from both the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986) and the 'Archaeological Survey of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1991). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 17 July 2007
