This blue commemorative plaque records: The Workmate was invented here by Ron Hickman, who set up Mate Tools in 1967. Hickman initially sold the Workmate by mail order, but after concluding a deal with Black & Decker, it was sold by them from 1973. Recorded plaque organisation: Broxbourne Borough Council.
