This commemorative plaque records: The Bristol Boys. Tom Cribb (1781-1848). Jem Belcher (1781-1811). John Gully (1783-1863). 'Big' Ben Brain (1753-1794). Henry Pearce (1777-1809).
Tom Cribb, Jem Belcher, John Gully MP, Ben Brain, and Henry Pearce were prominent bare-knuckle boxers in the early 19th century; they are remembered for their significant contributions to the sport during its formative years, particularly in Bristol.
