Mosaic fragments and Roman tiles still lie buried beneath the castle lawn, waiting for someone patient enough to dig. Blaise Castle is not one age but several, with Iron Age ditches, Roman roads and medieval walls stacked like sediment in a jar. Bristol built a pleasure garden above them, perhaps forgetting or perhaps honoring what slept below.

Blaise Castle was originally an Iron Age hillfort, later occupied during the Roman and medieval periods, and its estate was significantly developed in the post-medieval era by the Berkeley family.
