Paule Vézelay, a pioneering New Zealand abstract artist, lived at this address from 1939 to 1942, during a formative period in her career. Her time there coincided with the early development of modernist art in Aotearoa New Zealand, and she is remembered for her innovative, non-representational works that challenged artistic conventions of the era.
