Robert Southey, 1774‒1843, poet, historian, biographer and essayist, Poet Laureate 1813‒1843, lived here 1802‒1803. ‘The only existing entire man of letters.’
Robert Southey, Poet Laureate from 1813 to 1843, lived at this site from 1802 to 1803 and was a prominent literary figure of the Romantic period. He is remembered for his poetry, historical works, and as a key member of the Lake Poets alongside Wordsworth and Coleridge.
