This blue commemorative plaque records: Mary Carpenter aided by Lady Byron founded this Reformatory AD 1854.
Lady Anne Isabella Milbanke, known as Lady Byron after her marriage to the poet Lord Byron, was a mathematician and educator who supported social reform. She collaborated with Mary Carpenter to establish the reformatory in Bristol AD 1854, aimed at rehabilitating juvenile offenders through education and moral instruction.
