Why this matters

A Bronze Age cist; wider significance not recorded.

What is recorded here

In a catalogue of cists, Waddell (1970, 120), based on information from the NMI, lists an example from Blanchfields Bog which is described as, 'a small 'stone coffin' found c. 1918 in a mound on top of the hill known as 'The Breagan'; three vase food vessels and cremated bones found in cist'. The precise location of the cist is unknown. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 6 May 2020

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.

The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
