BIVALLATE RATH in Killealy

BIVALLATE RATH

What is recorded here

No visible trace remains, yet the name preserves a rare double enclosure. That much larger circle would have required more hands, more material and more certainty than an ordinary farm boundary. The earth may have taken the wood, stone and marker back, but the exception still stands recorded inside an ordinary Irish landscape.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as BIVALLATE RATH. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
