This brushed metal commemorative plaque records: Selly Park Property Owners' Association Centenary 1911-2011 In the 1860s a local solicitor, Robert Dolphin bought land in this area, divided it into plots, applied restrictive covenants and then resold the plots for residential development. The principal clause of the covenants was that each plot should have at least one quarter of an acre and no more than two attached houses could be built together. He also gave the land on which the adjacent church of St Stephen now stands as well as a significant contribution towards the total building costs. An attempt to breach the covenants in 1911 gave rise to the formation of the Association. Today, the important work of the Association continues to uphold the terms of the covenants, and ensure that the requirements of the Conservation Area Status, granted in 2009, are observed.
