Toberfeckin House

Detached three-bay two-storey-over-basement stone rectory, built c.1833. Oblong plan, pedimented doorcase to east, shallow single-bay return to west, two-storey extension with single-pitch roof projecting from north-west corner. Hipped artificial slate roof, artificial hip and ridge tiles, ashlar limestone corbelled chimneystacks with clay pots, uPVC gutters c. 1995 on eaves corbel course, cast-iron downpipes. Quarry-faced squared and coursed limestone walling, tooled quoins, chamfered string course above basement. Square-headed window openings, tooled limestone block-and-start surrounds, stone sills, painted six-over-six timber sash windows to ground and first floor, three-over-six to basement. Pedimented ashlar limestone main entrance doorcase, square-headed door opening and flanking sidelights, painted timber six-panel door, diamond-paned timber sidelights, six tooled limestone steps over basement area, flanking walls with saddle-back coping. Square-headed door opening to rear entrance, tooled limestone block-and-start surround, plain-glazed three-pane overlight, painted half-glazed timber double doors with vertically-sheeted bottom panels, concrete bridge over basement area, flaking wrought-iron balustrade. Bitmac forecourt, grass lawns running to main road. Various single- and two-storey outbuildings around gravelled yard to west. Pitched slate roofs, limewashed walling, six-over-six sash windows, segmental-headed carriage arch.

This house is a fine and typical example of a nineteenth century country rectory. The handsome pedimented entrance with its steps, diamond-paned glazing and original door is particularly impressive. Some later additions to the rear do not take away from the vista from the long approach driveway.
