What is recorded here

Indicated is a vanished Galway cashel whose earth and stone boundary once ringed a hidden underground passage. Maps tracked its transformation from a sharp circular enclosure in 1838 to a broader tree plantation in 1921, but the trees have since been removed and the ground no longer gives the fort back. It may still lie beneath the farmland, waiting for rain or memory to reveal the shape that measurement first suspected.

In undulating farmland. Marked on the 1838 edition of the OS 6-inch map as a circular hachured enclosure (diam. c. 35m) and on the 1921 edition as an unenclosed circular mixed tree plantation (diam. c. 52m). In the early 1960s it was described as a cashel defined by an earth and stone boundary and a Man-made underground passage (GA123-020001-) was noted in the centre of the interior (SMR file).
